Treading Days

Current Mantra: Be the hero of your own movie. —Joe Rogan

Jottings: Tuesday was a much needed rest day. Side note our little 100 pound Bodie hurt his foot, so I didn’t get outside, but I did get in some movement walking over 23k steps. I work from home; My workstation is a GeekDesk and a LifeSpan treadmill that I roll in and out throughout the day.

In addition to my near daily dog walks and training, my general rule is to start off the work day walking. Usually the first hour or so while I’m cleaning up email and getting into the daily workflow. I also have made it a practice to walk during meetings. Yesterday, I had 2-hour long meetings, so I ended up walking around 3 hours.

I love this set up because it allows me to stand, sit & walk. I find that changing position often help me stay fresher and more alert. Further, since I have the luxury of working from home, I get the added benefit of being able to walk bare-footed. Ok I’m currently wearing socks because it’s winter and our house temp hovers in the 60’s.

There’s a lot to gain from walking barefoot. Although Katy says this type of moment is junk food walking, and while I agree, it’s not nirvana; it is better than sitting and keeps me moving throughout the day.

Let’s face it; we live in a modern world where most of us must work, and many of us work in front of a computer. If you have the means, I say look at this type of set up, but remember it’s is, in addition, not in lieu of.
